Mary Shield of Peace,
Bearer of the Christ,
protect my soul
from Satan’s hidden attacks.
Keep me safe within your shield,
and preserve me in the tranquility
of Christ’s peace.
When worry seizes my mind,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When anxiety disturbs my heart,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When fear assaults my soul,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When despair crushes my hope,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When images violate my thoughts,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When temptation overwhelms my strength,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When shame overshadows my dignity,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When lies distort my identity,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When discouragement poisons my joy,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When opinions consume me,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
When noise distracts me from God,
Mary Shield of Peace protect me.
O Mother Victorious, nurture in me
the transforming Peace of Christ.
Amen.
Mary Shield of Peace began as a private devotion given by the Holy Spirit in 2015. After the prayer was written in 2021, the devotion grew quietly and bore fruit in various Church ministries. In 2023, artist Elizabeth Zelasko was commissioned to paint the image, and a prayer card was made. The devotion became public in August 2024 when Most Rev. Gerald L. Vincke, Bishop of Salina, granted it his Nihil Obstat. Today the prayer and accompanying image continue to guide the faithful to the peace of Christ through the protection of His mother, Mary Shield of Peace.
The following text describes the image received during prayer and was used as a reference for the painting:
"Mary is young and visibly pregnant. She walks barefoot across a lush and sunny meadow. From her feet emanates a translucent shield, coming up like a rounded forcefield around her. The source of this powerful shield is the Prince of Peace in Mary's womb. On the other side of the shield is darkness and Satan's army trying to attack, but no evil can breach Mary's impenetrable shield."
The painting is currently on display at:

Elizabeth Zelasko works as a full time commissioned artist creating sacred and fine art for Catholic publishers, institutions, churches, and private collectors. She speaks on the material process and theological aspects of writing a traditional icon, as well as the importances of sacred art in the home, and the history of art in the Catholic Church. Her work has been featured on EWTN, FORMED, the National Catholic Register, Denver Catholic, and in the Denver Art Museum.
